  • Shofar is blown each morning for the entire month of Elul preceding Rosh Hashana to awaken the listeners from their slumber and prepare for the coming ‘judgement’ of Yom Kippur
  • Penitential prayers are recited call Selichot
  • Eat apples dipped in honey to symbolize a sweet year
  • A round challah bread served to symbolize the cycle of the year
  • Ritual of Tashlich is performed on the afternoon of the first day and ones sins are symbolically thrown into the flowing water
